Woodrow Wilson will head into the abbreviated 2021 season with a roster heavy on juniors.
Class breakdown shows two seniors, eight juniors, one sophomore and one freshman.
Senior Ben Gilliam leads the Flying Eagles into the season after averaging a double-double of 15.7 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Gilliam was a second-team all-state pick last season.
Maddex McMillen (8.8 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.7 apg), Keynan Cook (2.2 ppg) and Dwayne Richardson (2.8 ppg, 2.5 apg) return with varsity experience.
An interesting note, K.K. Slay is the nephew of former Woodrow Wilson and state player of the year Tamar Slay and Jace Colucci (9.2 ppg at Westside) is the nephew of former Woodrow Wilson first-team all-stater Jamel Bradley. Tamar Slay and Jamel Bradley were key players on Woodrow Wilson’s back-to-back state championship teams in 1997-98.
Another interesting storyline will be the emergence of highly-touted freshman Elijah Redfern, who will be counted on to contribute right away.
Woodrow Wilson will scrimmage Chapmanville tonight (Wednesday, Feb. 24) at Woodrow Wilson and at St. Albans Saturday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
