ATHENS – After Wednesday’s Mountain East Conference announcement to return to play beginning no sooner than January 7, 2021, the Concord University women’s basketball team made its 2021 schedule available Thursday afternoon.

The 2021 winter schedule will be made up of 16 MEC games (eight home, eight away) with games running through February 27. The MEC Tournament will be held March 3-7 at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia.

The MEC will begin the winter sports season with no spectators. The league’s Board of Directors will evaluate the policy no earlier than January 19, 2021

All games dates, times and locations are subject to change. Game times will be announced at a later date.

The Mountain Lions will play Charleston, Davis & Elkins, Glenville State, West Virginia State and West Virginia Wesleyan twice while playing the other six teams in the MEC—Alderson-Broaddus, Fairmont State, Frostburg State, Notre Dame, West Liberty and Wheeling once.

CU opens the season with a trip to conference rival Charleston January 7 before hosting West Virginia State January 10 at the Carter Center. A brief two-game homestand concludes with West Virginia Wesleyan January 13 before Concord travels to Davis & Elkins January 16.

The return dates with Davis & Elkins (at home) and West Virginia Wesleyan (on the road) come February 13 and February 24, respectively.

Concord hosts West Liberty January 20 before embarking on a two-game road trip to Wheeling (January 23) and Fairmont State (January 27). The end of January and beginning of Februarys sees CU hosts Frostburg State (January 30) and Alderson Broaddus (February 3).

The lone road game in a five-game stretch for the Maroon and Gray comes February 6 at Notre Dame before returning home to face Glenville State (February 10), and aforementioned date with Davis & Elkins.

Return games at West Virginia State (February 17) and home to Charleston (February 20) precede a pair of road dates to conclude the season, at West Virginia Wesleyan and at Glenville State (February 27).

Due to the no-fan policy put in place by the MEC, all home games will be live streamed for the 2021 season.


• Over the last two seasons, Concord is 21-6 inside the Carter Center, including an 11-2 mark last season. The Mountain Lions ended 2019-20 with a nine-game winning streak at home.

• Last season, CU knocked off Glenville State inside the Carter Center, 103-102, to end the regular season. This season, GSC starts the year ranked 17th in the preseason Division II poll.

• Concord has defeated Fairmont State four consecutive times which is the longer winning streak for the Mountain Lions against FSU since a five-game winning streak from 2009-12.

• The current CU senior class of Riley FitzwaterAbigail GwinnKeely LundyTamra Scott and Morgan Thomas have beaten every MEC team, both home and away, with the exception of Frostburg State (away), Glenville State (away) and MEC newcomer Alderson Broaddus.
