CLEAR FORK –  According to Westside Cross Country Coach L. Dale Stewart, an alternate site will have to be selected for the Region 3 cross country meet.

Under recently released WVSSAC fall postseason guidelines, an orange or red county can’t host a postseason event.

Westside was scheduled to host the event Thursday.

Earlier Saturday Wyoming County was revealed as orange.

“We coaches have been working on alternative plans but we will not be able to finalize until Monday,” Stewart said.

Friday a positive Covid test was discovered at Westside (as well as Berlin-McKinney Elementary) and sports were immediately shut down and the school was placed in remote learning mode.

Stewart is hopeful his runners can compete. Under the guidelines released by the WVSSAC last week runners can compete if they all test negative.

Ironically, a similar situation happened with the golf team two weeks ago when the school was previously closed by a positive Covid test.

The county health department at first ruled the golf team unable to participate in the regional but later relented. They had all tested negative.

Kerri-Anne Cook qualified for the state tournament and finished third overall.
