For the first time since 1975, there will not be a North-South game.
Officials on Wednesday scrapped the long-time summer showcase, that had already once been rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It had been slated for July 10 at South Charleston.
The summer classic was originally scheduled to be played June 13.
Several area players were on the south team.
Those include Greenbrier East’s Marion Lawson, Kyle King and Houston Scott, Independence’s Marcell Guy, James Monroe’s Monroe Mohler and Xander Castillo, Mount View’s Liam Fultineer, Wyoming East’s Tanner Jenkins, Shady Spring’s Ian McKinney, Eric Bevil and Haven Chapman and Woodrow Wilson’s Ian Pomeroy.
Greenbrier East coach Ray Lee had been tapped to coach the South Cardinal squad.
The North was to be coached by North Marion’s Duran Hays.
The North won last year’s contest 8-6. While the South leads the series 40-23-3, the North has won four straight. The South’s last victory was 7-0 in 2015.
The North South game started in 1934. Between 1956-1975 there was no game.
